Songkran Celebrations a Success!
On April 11 the Marlborough Migrant Centre, together with members of the Thai Community in Marlborough, hosted a celebration of the Thai New Year and the Songkran festival.
The Thai New Year Songkran Festival, between 12-20 April, has been observed for centuries as a symbol of hospitality, love and a time to celebrate the importance of maintaining strong relationships within families and communities. Traditionally, festive celebrations pay tribute to the role of water in Thai culture and society and there is lots of fun to be had!
We would like to thank everyone who came along and St Andrews Chruch for the use of thier hall. You can view the photos of the performance and the water ceremony on our Facebook page here and read the local news coverage here
